Muskoka's Deerhurst Resort Swings Into Toronto Golf Show with Hank Haney
MUSKOKA, ON., Feb. 19 – Deerhurst Resort is trading winter white for some celebrity golf green when they return to the Toronto Star Golf & Travel Show. As home to the nation’s only ESPN Golf Schools, Deerhurst will feature video swing analysis, the latest Nike Golf equipment and appearances by PGA superstar instructor Hank Haney during the show’s three-day day run at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre March 9-11.
As golf coaches go, there aren’t many names hotter than that of Texan Hank Haney. One of Golf Digest’s “Top 5 Teachers in America,” last year his students won ten PGA tour events. Since late 2003 Haney has also been the Dean of Instruction for ESPN Golf Schools. In Toronto, he’ll be sharing swing tips and hands-on techniques during seminars on the show’s golf demo stage throughout Saturday.
Haney’s philosophy is behind all of ESPN Golf Schools’ five programs, which combine instruction, practice, evaluation and free Nike Golf gear to meet the needs of anyone from total novice to seasoned players with a specific goal.
The one-day 3-Club Tour focuses on the driver, putter and wedge – which account for about 75 percent of a golfer’s score. The Beginners Tour covers all the basics new golfers need to get out on the course including swing mechanics, etiquette and scoring. Haney will also talk about the exclusive Hank Haney Signature School which he’ll teach at Deerhurst on July 27-28.
While over 7,000 participants go through ESPN Golf Schools programs during 50 stops around the United States each year, Deerhurst is the only place you can enroll north of the border. According to ESPN Golf Schools President Charlie Ricks that’s thanks to a proven combination of facilities, instructors and golf courses.
“Deerhurst offers two distinct courses, the championship Deerhurst Highlands and gentler Deerhurst Lakeside, that accommodate golfers of all skill levels, which is key,” says Ricks. “And their coaches, like veteran Canadian PGA instructor Dave Castellan, really motivate students.” Last season when they introduced ESPN Golf Schools, Deerhurst also opened a new golf classroom, short game area and target greens.
In a world that embraces the Blackberry and camera cell phone, high-tech is the name of the game. So Deerhurst’s golf show set-up will include ESPN Golf Schools’ video swing analysis. And since one of the key features of ESPN Golf Schools is the Nike Golf equipment included free with tuition, visitors will also be able to try the latest Nike clubs including the Nike SasQuatch SUMO driver.
“The right tools make learning and improving your game a lot easier,” notes Deerhurst Head Golf Professional Tyler Rafter. “Toronto’s golf show is a great place to test it all out, get advice, prepare for the season and make those getaway plans.”
