Give Your Pets a Getaway at Nearby Happy Tails Pet Resort; Great Hound Bus™ Can Pick Them Up From GTA

HUNTSVILLE, ON, July 22, 2008 – Both overnight cottage country retreats boast cozy accommodations, relaxing water views, gourmet treats and top-notch massages. But while Muskoka’s landmark Deerhurst Resort concentrates on people pleasing, at nearby Happy Tails Pet Resort & Camp it’s all gone to the dogs and cats.

Set on 25 acres of meadows, ponds and woods along Brunel Road, just off Huntsville’s charming Main Street, the facility is a dream come true for both pet owners and busy cottagers – a place where they can drop off their dogs and cats and go away for the day or off on vacation with not a moment’s worry about how their animals will do without them.

“It’s a pet resort not just because of the setting and services, but also because of how our four-legged guests are handled,” says owner Lisa Brooks, who pioneered the initial concept from her breeding, boarding and grooming work back in 1996 and has since seen both her own business and the industry “jump like crazy.” “Happy Tails is really about a stress-break for both you and your pet, and the space to roam safely that city dogs don’t often get,” notes Brooks.  “This isn’t just fancy features at an ordinary kennel.”

Happy Tails has just launched its’ new Great Hound Bus Service™ from the GTA to Muskoka.  The 24 passenger, pet-only coach service offers pick-up from three popular dog parks near Oakville and in Toronto’s High Park and Beach neighbourhoods. On board pets are seated in the owner’s choice of either their crate or a sheepskin-lined safety harness. Clients can either book a round-trip or a make it a one-way ride and then drive “Spot” back with them after the weekend in Muskoka.

“We’re still fine-tuning the best schedule for peak summer traffic and then for holiday periods throughout the year,” confirms Brooks.  “Once we have everything running like clockwork, we’re looking at adding other stops like Barrie or another suburb north of the city.  And we’ve already done a number of door-to-door pick-ups this summer for clients with several pets.”

Partnering with Happy Tails has also been an ideal solution for nearby Deerhurst Resort.  “A lot of our guests and condo owners have pets they love.  But with varying personal preferences, allergy concerns and 780 acres of open grounds it just isn’t practical for us to accept pets,” says Director of Sales & Marketing Clee Varon.

“This is a win-win situation where owners can be confident their animals are having a great time but still fully enjoy their own vacation without rushing back for walks and bathroom breaks.  Kind of like putting your kids in summer camp and having your own adult sleepover,” Varon laughs.
