BBQ Weekend in Muskoka

Celeb chef, cookbook author Ted Reader and friends heat up Thrill of the Grill II. Deerhurst getaway package, dinner, public marketplace on offer.

Huntsville, ON., June 2010 – Ted Reader is firing up the grill and bringing his own gourmet brand of “World Famous Barbecue” to Deerhurst for the landmark Ontario resort’s second annual Thrill of the Grill weekend, July 16 to 18.

Known for his upscale but easy recipes and entertaining style (cooking a 268-kilo burger in Toronto’s Dundas Square just got Reader into the Guinness Book of World Records), the former executive chef turned grilling guru and author of over a dozen cookbooks, is passionate about preparing everything and anything on the grill or in the smoker, from pizza and pasta to bruschetta and desserts.

Reader’s plans for Thrill of the Grill II include cooking and sharing tips at the weekend package’s opening reception, presenting a “Cottage Grilling” workshop during the event’s public Gourmet Griller marketplace and hosting Saturday night’s “barefoot elegance” barbecue dinner on the beach.

His quest to help weekend guests add easy gourmet flair to this season’s backyard barbecues will be joined by competitive grilling champ and hostess with the mostest Danielle “Diva Q” Dimovski who will be adding authentic sizzle with a southern style barbecue workshop, and Deerhurst executive chef Rory Golden who will start things off right with a marinade-making session.

The complete Thrill of the Grill Muskoka weekend getaway package includes two night’s accommodation, breakfasts, a Friday night welcome reception, the centrepiece Gourmet Griller marketplace with lots of sampling, Saturday night’s multi-course dinner with beverage pairings and an assortment of workshops including a beer and cheese pairing session featuring Big Rock Brewery and grill maintenance how-tos from The BBQ Guys, all from just $399 per person, based on double occupancy.

Both the Saturday, July 17 Gourmet Griller marketplace ($5) and dinner ($99 plus tax and gratuity) are also open to the public.

In addition to signature sampling from all the guest chefs, Friday night’s welcome reception for weekend package guests will also feature a silent auction benefitting the Ontario Association of Food Banks.
