7 Must Stop Places for Any Muskoka Road Trip

Summer is here which means … hello road trips! Whether it’s your first trip to Muskoka or your hundredth, hitting the highway heading north to cottage country is always exciting. Yes, you’re anxious to get up here and get your getaway started, but here we’re all about getting on ‘Muskoka time’ so why not get in that mindset from the start? There are so many great little gems to stop at and explore on the way, so pull over, stretch out and check out these 7 must stop places.

Webers

An obvious choice to most, but for those who are heading north for the first time, this is a must – Webers is a Muskoka road trip classic! Operating since 1963, this old-school joint for burgers, shakes and ice cream is always hopping and has tons of seating including indoor seating in a converted train car to soak in the experience. Did we mention that this place is so popular that in 1983 they acquired a portion of the pedestrian bridge from the CN Tower in Toronto and placed it over the highway so that visitors could access this popular joint both north and south bound. Woodmill of Muskoka

Home of the Adirondack Muskoka Chair, Woodmill of Muskoka Furniture is a great spot to pull over and stretch out for a moment … or grab a seat and test out one of their many Muskoka chairs – plus kids will LOVE the giant dinosaur! Muskoka Store

Another Muskoka staple, the Muskoka Store was founded in 1979. Home to everything from furniture, home decor, clothing, sporting goods and gourmet goodies, this store has everything you could want, and is so much fun to explore, plus it’s pet friendly, Whether you’re in the market for some shopping or just want to look around, they’ve got lots of local handcrafted items and a whole side of the store dedicated to water spots, it’s fun to poke your head around. Muskoka Brewery

Muskoka Brewery handcrafts premium beers – and now small batch spirits. Offering brewery tours Friday to Sunday which are free, visitors will get a tour of the brewery and insight into how it all works and learn just how all that delicious beer is made. Afterwards, visitors can sample some of their beers (make sure to have a designated driver), grab a seat on their newly refreshed patio and pick-up a few things from their shop. Rich Hill Candles

Need to get your kids out of the car for a quick break? Stop by Rich Hill Candles in Bracebridge! Kids (and parents) will love the candle dipping room where you can create your own candle souvenir to take with you, plus visitors will get the opportunity to get a panoramic view of the candle production floor and explore the gift shop. Just off highway 11 at highway 118 towards Bracebridge on Robert Dollar Drive, this is a fun stop to make on your way up or way home! Visit their website for more info.

Muskoka Wharf

Get a glimpse of Lake Muskoka and enjoy a stroll around the Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst. Home to the historic RMS Segwun – the oldest operating steamship – and the Muskoka Boat and Heritage Centre, the Muskoka Wharf is a great spot to learn a little bit more about the area, shop and grab a coffee … or ice cream! Located in the town of Gravenhurst just off highway 11.

Operating since 1975, Lindgren Pottery’s showroom is open to the public. Creating unique stoneware pottery owners and operators, Eric and Cathy create pieces that are reflective of the area.
